Travel scams commonly begin on social media or search engines, with criminals posing as reputable companies offering holiday deals. I hvae been told fraudsters had also targeted victims on legitimate sites using bogus accommodation listings, convincing them to transfer cash directly to their bank accounts rather than paying through the official means.
If you are going to book, book directly through trusted sites or travel agents, avoid following links on social media and to pay by debit or credit card for more protection as you may get a refund from banks etc..If you fall victim to a scam but not in all cases.
Requests to transfer money via bank transfer should ring alarm bells.
