Text messages aren't all they seem. But that's just the start. The details gathered through the messages can lead to even more costly outcomes. How the scam works You receive a fake delivery message from a parcel company. It says you have missed a parcel and must pay a small fee for re-delivery. It asks you to click on a link and enter personal and card details. The parcel doesn't turn up, and you'll have paid money to a scammer. Sadly, the criminals don't stop there. They'll target you with further, more costly scams in the future, including pretending to be from your bank. You get a call pretending to be from your bank’s fraud department. You’re told your account is at risk. They use details harvested from the text link to convince you they’re genuine. To keep your money safe, they ask you to transfer it all to a new account. But it's not your account. The money's actually gone to the criminal. Avoid being scammed year & next. These simple steps can help protect you and your money. Don’t click on a link in a text or email and enter any of your personal information. Your bank will never ask you to move your money to a new account for security reasons. If this happens, it’ll be a scam. Take time to double-check what you’re being asked to do. Use a number from our website. Or call 159 and you’ll be put through to your bank.
