If you are planning on photographing a model and are going to sell or use the photos for commercial purposes you may will need to get a model release. This is a simple form that you and the model sign which says what you can then use the photos for. If photographing minors ie children you will need to get parental consent again this is a simple form detailing model age & parents consent to photograph and use the photos, remember this needs to be witnessed by some else so you might need to take some else with you. Not many people release that you also need a release form if you are photographing say someone's house or a building again this is for when you will be using the photos for financial gain or for commercial use.
You can download all the release forms from the following site http://www.professionalphotographer.co.uk/Magazine/Downloads/Model-Release-Form - http://www.professionalphotographer.co.uk/Magazine/Downloads/Model-Release-Form If the release does not suit you you can do a simple search to find others.
If you plan to sell your photos to stock libraries it may be worth
downloading a release form from the library in question. Unless you have
the forms signed then stock libraries will probably not accept your
images for publication.
Just because you don't have a signed model release does not mean you can't sell your pictures. Newspapers don't always have model releases but they also buy photos. Many people now a days have camera's on their phones how many of them get permission these are then uploaded or published.
